Alvin Brendan, a Filipino-Canadian musician, is one of Vancouver’s most sought-after guitarists, celebrated for his dynamic performances and versatility both live and in the studio. Throughout his career, Brendan has honed his craft, performing with many of Canada’s top artists at prestigious venues and on national and international tours. His studio collaborations with internationally renowned artists and producers further cement his reputation as a versatile and accomplished musician. Notable artists Brendan has collaborated with include Katie Tupper (Juno Award Nominated), Tiny Habits, Ayla Tesler-Mabé, and Mikey Jose, among many others.
In addition to becoming an in demand session musician, he has been quickly crafting a strong identity for himself as a Jazz musician in Vancouver. Despite his youth, he has been fortunate enough to land many performance and recording opportunities with Vancouver’s best. Alvin attributes his cool and sophisticated sound to his learning from his local heroes Bill Coon and Ron Samworth, as well as having the opportunity to learn from internationally acclaimed legends Peter Bernstein and Lorne Lofsky. In combining his love for early Jazz/Swing music with his contemporary influences, Alvin always aims to create a statement that adheres to a rich musical tradition whilst being exciting and fresh.

I have been teaching electric/acoustic guitar, electric bass and ukulele privately and through different institutions for about a decade. Throughout those years I have found myself in a variety of teaching situations, from one-on-one lessons to classes of thirty; from teaching 6 year olds to 70 year olds; from teaching Metallica riffs to Chet Baker solos. My aim as an educator is to help my students realize their own musical goals, create a plan to reach it, and help them on their musical journey to achieve that goal.
All ages, skill levels and musical interests are welcome. Lessons in harmony, soloing, improvising, music theory and ear training can all be provided depending on your own goals.
